Superfood and Supplements
I take Ashwagandha first thing in the morning, in home-made almond milk, with 1/2 tsp raw (must be raw) honey. Ashwagandha literally means “to impart the strength of a horse.” Ashwagandha, also known as Indian ginseng, is one of the most highly regarded and widely used Ayurvedic herbs. It is indicated in Ayurveda as a daily healing practice for anti-aging support, to increase energy, and to improve overall health and longevity. It acts as an adaptogen and immune modulator, nourishing and strengthening the inner reserve of the human body. Maximizing the body’s ability to resist stress, it enables the body to reserve and sustain vital energy throughout the day while promoting sound, restful sleep at night. *
This is one of my favorite “supplements”!!! Cacao is the highest whole food source of magnesium, which also happens to be the most deficient mineral in the diet of modern cultures. The dark chocolate antioxidants have been clinically proven to literally dissolve plaque built up in the arteries which helps in reversing heart disease and causes naturally lower blood pressure.
Out of all the whole foods that contain antioxidants, raw chocolate is the highest in the world. It dwarfs the popular foods and beverages commonly touted as being antioxidant rich foods such as red wine, green tea and blueberries by a factor of 10x or more! *The famous “Dutch study”, which was done on regular processed chocolate, followed over 200 Dutch men over the course of twenty years and found that those who ate the most milk and dark chocolate had lower rates of all major diseases compared to those who ate little to no chocolate. The health benefits of chocolate were really emphasized in this study by the fact that there was no upper limit to how much chocolate could be consumed by these men. What they literally discovered was that the more chocolate you eat, the more your potential for human longevity increases!
Grown in the mountains of Peru, it has been called “Peruvian ginseng.” Maca has been highly regarded for centuries as a miracle food so it’s no surprise it has become a recent addition to the “must have” nutrient list for smoothies. Please do your research to determine if Maca is something you’d like to take. Below are some of the many reported benefits: Increased Energy; Increased Fertility in both men an women; Migraine reduction; Memory enhancement; Speeding up the time wounds take to heal; Vitamin packed; Immune Booster; Natural fungicide and antiseptic; Stress reliever; Thyroid regulator; Pancreas regulator; Helps to boost the immune system function of the thymus gland. *
This is another one of my favorites! It’s a natural sweetener that is also a superfood. Use Lucuma as a natural sweetener for use in desserts, smoothies, and raw ice cream. Lucia is an excellent way to get a boost of rich antioxidants and B vitamins. Also containing protein and trace minerals, this all-natural sweetening powder can not only help stabilize blood sugar, but also curb cravings, curb appetite. Because of the rich antioxidant content of lucuma powder, this all natural organic sweetener has immune system boosting potential, as well as the ability to fight and prevent certain diseases and illnesses including cancer. Lucuma has also long been said to aid in healing and speed up wound closure, making it a powerful natural healer. *
Literally meaning “three fruits”, Triphala is a traditional Ayurvedic herbal formulation consisting of three fruits native to the Indian subcontinent.Triphala is most commonly known for its use as a gentle bowel tonic, helpful in digestion and supporting regular bowel movements. The combination of the three fruits has a synergistic effect to bolster many other systems as well. In addition to the GI tract, Ayurveda uses Triphala to support healthy respiratory, cardiovascular, urinary, reproductive, and nervous systems. Triphala has also been shown to be a powerful antioxidant, protecting cells from the damaging effects of free radicals. *
